"Regrets Release Valve" Guitar Lesson

Regrets Release Valve Guitar Lesson with tabSomething Cheesy I Made
I took longer than I would have liked to to to finish this lesson. This lesson, "Regrets Release Valve" is an original composition that I am teaching as well. The lesson is for a short song, the performance I give is under one minute. However, if you wanted expand on my composition, you could easily repeat different sections or even add new parts of your own to make it a longer song.

Another benefit of having a shorter lesson is that the tab for this lesson all fits on one page. That makes it easier to practice. The tab for this lesson is detailed and accurate, because like I mention in the lesson's video, I wrote it. It has chord charts with accurate left hand fingering, I have all the right-hand fingering above the tab in PIMAC notation (which I explain in the video).

One huge benefit that I reap from filming these guitar videos for you is that it forces me to brush up on my technique and focus harder because I want my students watching me to see a quality performance of the lesson I am about to teach. Though this is good for me as a player, it does bring out the perfectionist in me, and I tend to maybe film too many takes. I always can find something that could have been better. Maybe my nail may hit the string, a note may not be loud enough, a string buzzes, and on and on... But through that process of filming and watching yourself, you very quickly get better and better. Soon enough, most takes of the song become "pretty dang good", even though you can still find something wrong. I think this performance is dang good, but I intend to expand on the song and film a more professional performance in the future with better audio equipment.

As for the name "Regrets Release Valve", I was talking with my wife about how I used to fantasize about being able to travel back in time to a previous time in my life while still retaining my present knowledge and self-confidence as an adult. It would be pretty fun. However, I was saying to my wife that I don't have that fantasy much anymore because I feel like I don't indulge in my regrets as much as I used to. I released my regrets to a large degree. However, I didn't let regrets from my past just float away from me willy-nilly, like I mention in the lesson video, you have to work through them, and that's what I did. Finding the self-knowledge to work through regrets is hard work.

I would like to endorse one website that has been helping me and my wife find self-knowledge, be better to each other, and be better parents to our son. The website is LenonHonor.com and Lenon has an amazing depth of knowledge and work available for free, and he also has a members access area for $8/mo that we have and the member's content is great too. I am not affiliated at all, I just really love the work of Lenon Honor and think he is making the world a better place and you should check his work out. Without further ado, here is the video. You can also go to this lesson's main page by clicking here.

I'm Starting a Blog for The New Year of 2015! Resolutions.

I am making this blog not only to bring you lesson updates but also to bare my soul. I know I sound mellow-dramatic, but I need to start sharing my journey on the internets. I know it will be cathartic for me. 2014 was a year of momentous change for my family, here are a few things that happened.
  • My amazing son turned 2.
  • My beautiful wife is pregnant again.
  • I got severely injured from a car wreck and could not move my arm or right side of my body for a month, I could not play guitar, and I had to stop giving live guitar lessons- my income source. I'm still healing now but I can play guitar, unless I am too sore.
  • I moved to South America with my family. I am here now writing to you from a mile high in the Andes Mountains.

As you can see, my life in 2014 had been very exciting to say the least and 2015 is going to be challenging and exciting as well. I moved my family to a new house in South America, we are settling in well and getting ready for our new baby to come in just 4 months. I absolutely have to start making Guitar Lesson Guy a success financially by adding new features, lessons, and tabs.

I need to keep building up my numbers of full-site access premium members. I need at least 100 more paying members. That seems like a daunting task to me right now, but you know what? I'm good enough, smart enough, and doggonit, people like me.
I am ready to let success into my life, to work hard, and take this site to  the next level. I am also offering webcam lessons to a limited number of positive, motivated students. I am very good at one-on-one teaching, I have a knack for helping people learn quickly and to have fun while they learn. I am dedicated to my students and I want to bring you the highest quality guitar instruction.

I'd love to hear from you about your journey in 2014, and your resolutions in 2015 whether it relates to guitar or life in general. Please leave a comment below if you like, I will have to approve your first comment, then all additional comments after your first will show up instantly.
